I recently applied for, and was accepted into, the Disney International Program at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
This program invites graduates to spend six months to a year working at the theme park whilst also undertaking developmental study in a field of choice. Currently I am considering their ‘Creativity and Innovation’ course, which will hopefully enrich my skills as a designer, and allow me to think outside the box when mulling over ideas.
I’ll be starting in January, 2013.
This should hopefully be a starting point to what I hope will be a number of stepping stones in building my experience in the games industry. No doubt Disney is a company I would love to have under one arm, and I’m quite anxious to see how I can seize opportunity whilst I’m over there.
Also, the scene of Walt Disney World is especially important to me due to a gentleman I look up to highly by the name of Jesse Schell. A great inspiration of mine, Schell worked as an Imagineer on some of the attractions at Walt Disney World, and discussed some of his design processes in his book The Art of Game Design: A book of Lenses.
