I’ve had the honor of being on a number of panels, but this was a first for me – moderator and host for the panel “New Approaches To Mentorship In A Pandemic” at Games For Change! This was a whole new experience but one I’m glad I did. It was rewarding, challenging, and I learned a lot both in public speaking skills and also in what it takes to be the one to prepare, gather material, run tech checks, and coach the rest of the panelists to make sure everything goes according to plan.
The panel itself was one I have been passionate about since I started in the industry, and which drove me to create the panel for this conference in the first place. A lot of my educational training was in the hard skills of the different disciplines in game development, but nothing really helped me break into the industry itself if it weren’t for the mentors and networks I had in my first two years. I am first hand the product of the value of mentorship, and I will gladly continue to encourage others into becoming mentors and mentees to lift others up in the industry.
Take a look at our panel on Youtube – I hope you enjoy it!
