This was my first time I have been asked to speak overseas. It was amazing to see the European games industry and the smiling faces of Croatia against the beautiful backdrop of Dubrovnik.
I hosted a panel talking about the general fundamentals of production, and how they differ from an indie studio to a AAA studio. Because Croatia still had an up and coming industry, it was no surprise that the vast majority of the attendees were looking to pitch their indie startups and ask questions on how to plan production for a new IP, so we did our best to keep our discussion topics approachable for all studio sizes and production types. Everyone was super friendly. I was strongly reminded of the Australian industry in the days of 2010, 2011: a strong foundation with determined people, fresh ideas that were not limited by the boundaries of large studio stakeholders or publishers, the tenacity and thirst to grow bigger and to rub shoulders with renowned developers, but not too big that they should become cocky or lose their heart in what makes Croatia unique.
At the conference I also got to meet Amy Hennig, Hermen Hulst, and Jan-Bart van Beek.
I had an absolute blast and cannot thank Reboot enough for having me and putting on such a fabulous show. Thank you especially to Damir Durovic for being so hospitable.
